Va - Horse Meat Disco (2009)

The first compilation from Horse Meat Disco opens, improbably enough, with an answering-machine message from a deeply shaken Geordie called Craig, whose evening at the celebrated London club night has apparently taken a turn for the bizarre: "A massive glass unicorn came crashing down on the dancefloor and started chanting my name," he protests weakly, sounding a little worse for wear. "That's when I knew, hey, you better get yourself to bed." If it can't quite replicate the hedonistic atmosphere that presumably led to poor old Craig's mental undoing, the 16 tracks here ably demonstrate why the club's reputation has burgeoned in recent years: from a dubbed-out Larry Levan mix of Smokey Robinson to the dizzy euphoria of Plaza's Got My Dancing Shoes, it's all suitably obscure, but never becomes an arid exercise in record collecting one-upmanship: the desire to unearth lost gems is clearly matched by an equally strong urge to ensure everything they dig out is impossibly funky.

Zoot Woman are a British electronic music group made up of Adam Blake, Johnny Blake and Stuart Price. Known for their live shows, the group has gained a worldwide following. The live line-up includes Jasmin O'Meara, (bass, vocals, synthesizers). With 'Living in a Magazine’ Zoot Woman established themselves on the music scene. Credited by many within the industry as one of the most important forerunners of electroclash. The band in full generally disassociates itself from the largely instrumental material released by Adam Blake and Stuart Price before adding Johnny Blake to the lineup and taking a new direction stylistically. This is evidenced by the lack of its coverage on the official website.

Simian Mobile Disco - Temporary Pleasure (2009)

Simian Mobile Disco have named their sophomore album Temporary Pleasure. It'll be out August 17. The cast of guest vocalists includes Beth Ditto, Jamie Lidell and Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals). Zan Rowe caught up with producer James Ford, who reported that some of the music was made here in Australia earlier this year when Simian Mobile Disco were touring with the Big Day Out. "Ten Thousand Horses we actually mixed in Australia in a studio in Australia. We had a day off and instead of going to the beach like everybody else on the tour we went in to the studio. And I think yeah, that was the mix that made it on to the record. Ford said that he was hoping to be back in Australia with Simian Mobile Disco again this summer.

Va - Get physical 7th anniversary compilation mixed by M.A.N.D.Y. (2009)

M.A.N.D.Y. are set to compile the latest mix CD for Get Physical, which celebrates seven years of operation for the label.

Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung have constantly been the DJs of choice when it comes to summarising the label's output in mix CD form (with the pair also lending their hand to Get Physical's second and fourth anniversary mixes), so it's no surprise to see them return to the controls for the imprint's 7th Anniversary Compilation. The collection centres on Get Physical's output from the last three years, taking big singles like Patrice Baumel's "Roar" and Italoboyz's "Zinga," and placing them alongside less obvious selections from Thomas Schumacher, DJ T. and Mac Neumann. Ardent Get Physical collectors should be happy to hear that there will be a raft of exclusive tracks featured on the mix, including a new remix of Damian Lazarus' "Neverending" by M.A.N.D.Y. and Alexkid, and a "Saxed Up" version of Dakar's "I’ve Got That Feeling."

Sally Shapiro - My Guilty Pleasure (2009)

Sally Shapiro, the Swede who does this thin electropop with certain melancholy air but who still does not enjoy not half of the popularity that your compatriot Robyn has, returns this year with the second LP after all the remixes have thrown Disc Romance (2007) and others.

The new album goes for name My Guilty Pleasure and it will be thrown by Paper Bag Record next August 25. To the disc it is anticipated by the exit of the single “Miracle“ on June 16, although it is already possible to listen from Pitchfork or straight in your MySpace.

After charming blog boys (and girls?) with her icy-hot brand of dance-pop on 2006's Disco Romance, nonplussed Swedish disco princess Sally Shapiro is readying her official follow-up, My Guilty Pleasure, for release August 25 via Paper Bag.

Produced by Shapiro's right hand man Johan Agebjörn, Guilty Pleasure also includes contributions from Cloetta Paris and Tensnake. The single "Miracle hits North American stores June 16, backed by a remix by Bogdan Irkük. The song is currently streaming on this very website.

In a press release, the notoriously shy chanteuse said the new album will "hopefully make you fall in love with the person sitting next to you on the bus." Creepy, Reader's Digest-reading old guy in the back, this is your lucky day.

Prepare to be surprised, though: If the press surrounding Milky Ways, the third LP proper from French producer Joakim is to be believed, the new album will be a total departure from the fuzzy disco of 2007’s Monsters & Silly Songs. Inspiration is said to have been derived through extensive touring around the period of that last record, as Joakim and his group (formerly known as the Ectoplasmic Band) honed their skills on the road. The resulting album takes in moments of “psychedelia, old-school computer music, exotica, electro-pop, blues, new wave, New Pop, Krautrock,” in ten tracks and 51 minutes. The release marks something of a resurfacing for Joakim who, after a sustained period of prominence in and around 2007/2008 through a flurry of remix work, had been relatively quiet of late.
